FAQs

  • How do I bring my cat to the salon?

Please ensure your feline arrives to the salon in a secure cat specific carrier. Families of cats must be crated separately, each in an individual carrier, as some cats can behave unexpectedly towards each other after a groom, as they can look and smell different.

  • Does my short hair cat need grooming?

Short hair cats shed a lot. Unlike their long hair equivalents who shed into their coat, short hair cats shed their hair out everywhere- all around the house, floors, furniture, and on your clothing. Deshed treatments for short hair cats are our most popular service, which dramatically reduces hair shed. Once you see the benefits of having your short hair feline professionally groomed, it’s hard to go back.

  • My cat doesn’t like water.

Most cats tolerate water very well, and even enjoy it. The bathing step of the groom is the stage that can calm even the most anxious cat. A professionally trained groomer, who has the correct equipment, tools and products, and who knows how to handle cats, is a very different experience for your pet, in comparison to owners bathing their pets at home.

  • My cat doesn’t like the blow dryer.

Just like any new experience, it can take a few moments for your cat to get used to the sound and sensation of dryer. The dryer is introduced slowly, and we use happy hoodies to cover your pets ears to muffle the sound and avoid airflow in the ears. Most cats settle into the process, and actually find this stage of the groom very relaxing.

  • My cat is anxious, and/or aggressive.

We are happy to attempt a groom on any cat, as we are unable assess their temperament in our environment, without meeting them first. We ask that you inform us if your cat has a history of being aggressive or biting/scratching with handling at home, with strangers, or with their vet, so that we are prepared and can take precautions. We reserve the right to stop a groom at any stage where we feel there is danger to us, or your cat.

  • My cat is too old.

The grooming needs of senior, or elderly cats, changes as they age. As a cat gets older, the level of oils in their skin increases, and due to lack of mobility, self grooming decreases. It is common for senior cats to develop matting, thick nails, and other problems that may not have been present earlier in their lives. Regular professional grooming can resolve these issues and help to maintain good health. Grooming techniques on senior cats may be modified, as the completed groom is focused on the welfare of the pet, to ensure the safety and comfort of the animal, and not for perfect aesthetic outcomes.

  • Can I stay with my cat during their groom?

For your pet's safety, we do not allow owners to remain in the workplace for the grooming appointment. Behaviourally, your pet is much more likely to be restless and difficult to groom if they can see, smell, or hear you. Pets are more settled and behave much better when the owner is absent.

  • How long will the groom take?

We typically allow 2 hours per appointment time, as this allows us to give cats a break in between grooming if needed. We strive to make every cat as comfortable as possible, so grooming appointments can vary in time, depending on each individual cat. We aim to have your cat groomed as quickly as possible, however working with animals means this will not always go to plan. We will contact you if your pet is ready sooner than expected.

  • Does my cat need to be shaved?

At the Kitty Concierge we absolutely love long, natural coats, and specialise in coat maintenance and preservation. Often, first time clients that seek out professional grooming, come to us because their pets coat has become unmanageable.  In these cases, sometimes shaving is the only option, to relive the pet from knots, matting and coat compaction. Moving forward from the first time fix up groom, our aim is to arrange a grooming schedule that is suited to your pets’ individual needs, for minimal at home maintenance, and ensure that their coat stays in top condition all year round.

  • My cat is not feeling well, should I still bring them in for their groom?

Please call us if any health issues have arisen with your cat prior to their groom. We want your cat’s groom to be as successful and comfortable as possible. If they are not feeling 100% we may suggest that we reschedule your appointment to a later date.
